Kenora

Being a parent to a young child, with another one on the way, this might become a common thread…..but I certainly did not get much chance to take pictures this trip to Kenora, but here are three I do want to share from a hike we did.

Eastern Canada

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of shooting my sisters wedding in PEI.  My family and I also had the opportunity to see some of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.  I didn’t get to play with my camera very much, but here are a few landscape shots when I did get that opportunity.  If you would like any of these making your walls look fancier, please don’t hesitate to contact me for an order.

Roxy and Luke Married

This wedding was way more than a usual gig for me.  My sister Roxy married an awesome dude.  My son was the Ring Bearer.  My pregnant wife was a bridesmaid.  And it all happened in an absolutely stunning setting on Prince Edward Island…….my first ever destination wedding.  I’m so excited to share these pictures of such an important day for my family, and I also can’t wait to go back to visit the Maritime Provinces of Canada.

Evan and Jacqueline Married

Evan and Jackie were an absolute pleasure to work with.  They were completely into each other.  Evan looked at Jackie like girls in commercials look at yogurt.  From weather that wasn’t sure what it wanted to do, to the best man losing the rings, to one of my favourite night portrait sessions I have ever been a part of……this day was fun.

Robyn and Will Married

Ever since I shot Robyn and Will’s engagement session, I have been looking forward to their wedding.  Who knew when we were freezing our extremities off in the engagement shoot this winter, that the wedding would take place during a heat advisory.

From having adorable twins as the flower girl and ring bearer, to slow dancing on the streets of Tuxedo, to doing a nighttime portrait session beside shady drug dealers in a parkade, this day had it all, and I was so happy to have been part of it.  By the time I was leaving, my face was actually cramping a bit from smiling and laughing.

Here are a few of my personal favourite shots from the day.

La Barrière de la Lumière

I was recently blessed that a really good friend of mine developed an interest in photography.  To nurture this new hobby of his, we decided to go photograph the sunset at La Barrier Park together.  There had been a lot of rain over the previous few weeks, and we knew going into this that we would be fighting hoards of mosquitoes.  What we didn’t expect to find was a bridge fully engulfed by the river, not allowing us to drive to our destination.  We packed up our gear, took off our shoes, and waded through waste deep, flowing currents to get to the other side.  After a short hike into the park, and reapplying thick coats of DEET, we set up our tripods and watched the magic unfold before us.

Here are three of my favorite shots from the trip!

This first shot, was the exact reason I wanted to go to the park.  I knew with the rain, that the river would be high, and with that comes smooth transitions of solid land into the water, coupled with the chance that you may get to see a partially submerged tree.  I have always been drawn to these types of scenes.  And this is probably the closest I will get to visiting a dream location of mine,  Lake Wanaka in New Zealand.  Here a very famous tree literally grows straight out of the surface of the lake.

Flooded tree

With the serenity of the smooth waters and sunset, it was only fitting that a fishing boat with two young fishers slowly float into scene and provide a beautiful, serendipitous moment.

And to cap off the shoot, here is one final sunset at the beautiful Manitoba park!

60th Birthday Party in the Pedrosa Family

It’s not very often I get asked to photograph a birthday party, but am I ever glad I got to spend the night with this family.

2B4A8147They are a beautiful family to start, and they certainly know how to throw a party.

2B4A8255Rico was being celebrated for turning 60, but with the amount of energy he had this night, that age was hard to believe.  I would later find out he was also a talented singer.

2B4A8294In true Filipino form, a bumping karaoke party broke out for a portion of the evening.  A few of the performers were definitely seasoned enough to not require display.

2B4A8345

2B4A8366

2B4A8430There was clearly no shortage of entertainment.

2B4A8480And there was also no shortage of special moments breaking out across the room.

2B4A8503Rico’s smile was contagious, and it was great to hear a little history from a few of the speeches that took place.

2B4A8561Rico’s family didn’t spend the whole time laughing.  Each member of the family took the time to acknowledge the special bond they had.

2B4A8605Perhaps the most special part of the night was when Rico’s youngest daughter surprised her parents with a song.  Rico allegedly always wanted to see his daughters perform, but all three of his daughters pursued other interests.  This song was clearly very touching for him.

2B4A8649Rico, being the performer that he is, would not let the night go by without taking the stage himself.

2B4A8629What made the song even more special, was that each of his daughters took the stage with their significant other and danced to the music.

IMG_0490And, as expected, a major dance party broke out.  What a blast.

IMG_0655Happy birthday Rico!

Evan and Jackie Engaged Part 2

There has been a lot of rain and sunshine over the last few weeks, creating incredibly lush foliage.  Evan and Jackie enjoyed the lush Assiniboine Forest as they took their dogs for a walk.  They also had the pleasure of watching the sunset together with the mosquitoes.  I’m very much looking forward to their Assiniboine Park wedding this summer.

Enjoy!

Tulabi Falls

Yesterday I posted an image that really resonated with me, that was actually taken very early on in my photography development.  While exploring past photos, I came across many that I had overlooked at one time, but now see incredible potential.  It’s really interesting to see what speaks to me now verses what spoke to me then.  Below is an image I have posted before, but the full weight of it never really hit me until recently.  I love the color and contrast of this photo, and I love that this is from one of my favourite places in the world.  Being drawn into this photo is a great escape from the chaos of city living.

Feel free to contact me if you are as drawn to this picture as I am, and would like to purchase a print.

Re-Visiting Old Times

A few years ago my parents moved away from the town and house that I spent the majority of my younger days living.  I was perusing through pictures, and reliving memories when I stumbled upon this picture.  Anyone who has followed my work since starting out in photography has most likely seen a variation of this photo.  This picture had a huge impact on my passion for photography.  It has always stood out to me as one of my first ever successful creative photo projects.  I over-processed the heck out of it originally, but today while my son slept, I decided to re-process it.

Having the opportunity to go back through pictures and relive moments of my life is something I appreciate almost on a daily basis.  This is a photo of my wife about 2 months before we got married, just outside the town of Wawanesa, in my childhood backyard.
